A New Kind of Neighborhood

“But say the soul’s a great mosaic

Shattered in the atmosphere at birth,

And life the search, the slow and tedious,

Never-ending work of gathering . . .

Something beautiful and various

Beyond the niggling smallnesses of self”

From the poem “For, As to Change” by Constance Merritt

The “what” of Bringing Justice Home is simple: we buy healthy real food chosen by our medically vulnerable neighbors and deliver it right to their doors. But the how and why of what we do is really important and that’s a harder and more complex story to tell.

But we’ll try.

Imagine a world where we all come together to build a new kind of neighborhood, one where relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Imagine a neighborhood that's not divided by geography, race, or class, but instead is united by our vision of shared resources, shared outcomes, and shared dreams.

This is the world that Bringing Justice Home is working to create, one relationship at a time.

At the heart of our work is the belief that every person is a precious and integral part of the community. Just like the pieces of a mosaic or the sparks of holiness, each of us has something unique and valuable to offer. And when we join each precious and unique and valuable person together, we create something truly beautiful and transformative.

Building a new kind of neighborhood starts by building relationships with one another. By getting to know our neighbors and understanding their unique needs and desires, we can begin to create a community that truly works for everyone. It requires us to listen deeply, to be open to new ideas and perspectives, and to be willing to work together to find solutions to the challenges we face.

We also believe that building a new kind of neighborhood means dismantling the systems of segregation that have kept us apart for far too long. It means acknowledging the ways in which racism, classism, ableism, and other forms of oppression have shaped our world, and striving to undo those systems of harm. It means creating a world where everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive, and where everyone's unique and precious dreams are supported and celebrated.

If this sounds like a neighborhood you’d like to join, we’d love to have you. Whether you're a long-time resident or a newcomer, whether you're young or old, whether you're Black or white, rich or poor, we believe that you have something unique and precious to offer in creating a just and equitable world. Together, we can create a community that is truly integrated, where everyone's voice is heard, and everyone's contributions are valued. Let's join hands and hearts to create a neighborhood that reflects our shared vision of justice, peace, and love.
