How did you get connected to BJH?
I found a listing for BJH on VolunteerMatch in 2022. At the time, I had recently completed undergraduate study at the University of Louisville and had additional time in my schedule aside from employment. I wanted to devote my time to a greater cause and become more engaged in my local community. Previously, I had been so immersed in study, work, and personal obligations that I had no time to engage in volunteer work. Once I graduated, I felt ready to utilize some of the skills and talents I had cultivated as a student.

What is it like being a BJH volunteer?
Being a BJH volunteer is a fulfilling experience. This volunteer work has further enlightened me on how interconnected our lives, needs, and humanity are as people. This experience has not only brought me closer to the neighbors we serve, but also like-minded people serving other food justice/social justice organizations. It has played a critical part in developing my social consciousness and examining the oppressive systems around us.

What are your favorite ways to unwind and recharge?
My favorite way to unwind is by relaxing at home and reading or watching online content.
