Every mission-driven initiative reaches a moment where continuing to fly on fumes isn't an option—it distracts from the core mission itself. Over this past season, as we faced fundraising lags, we realized it was time to land the plane gracefully so we could move into the hangar for necessary upgrades.
Thanks to an incredible wave of generative partnership and neighborly care, we were able to bring BJH 1.0 to a strong, dignified close for every household we served.
Powered by Generous Support
When individual donor fundraising fell short of our budget goals, key partners stepped up to bridge the gap:
The Lift a Life Novak Family Foundation: Provided a transformative $22,500 grant specifically designed to fund full grocery deliveries through May and June while supporting our transition process. Their deep commitment to generative, neighbor-centered partnership made this landing smooth and compassionate.
Snowy Owl Foundation: Funded a specialized $100 shelf-stable pantry box delivery per household in May ($4,000 grant + $700 unrestricted funds).
Grassroots Donors: Step-by-step contributions in February allowed us to keep normal grocery operations running smoothly through early spring.
Finishing Strong for Our Neighbors
Because of this support, our final months delivered real, tangible care:
June Final Supplies: We distributed roughly 3x the standard amount of household, pet, and personal care supplies per household to keep neighbors stocked.
Mobility & Ongoing Food Access: We provided direct TARC and TARC3 transit tickets, funded Kroger/Walmart+ subscriptions for online grocery delivery, and covered the 5 neighbors who opted in to our CSA program, made possible by Bar Farms CSA members, will c0ntinue getting biweekly farm boxes through October.
Hands-on Navigation: We built dedicated transition web pages and spent hours making direct calls and texts to help neighbors navigate zip-code-specific resources.
Landings are hard, but because of partners like the Lift a Life Novak Family Foundation and our dedicated grassroots supporters, every neighbor was held with respect and care throughout the process.
